Landscape Construction & Maintenance
The owners loved entertaining and wanted an area where they relax around the pool but also create beautiful meals whilst enjoying the outdoor surrounds. The client’s dream vision included a pool house with a fully functioning kitchen including a traditional wood fire pizza oven and a pool that featured spa.
In order for Natures Best Landscapes to deliver their dream and more, there were many hurdles to be overcome. Erin Green was engaged to design and construct the entire project. He had to project manage various sub-contractors such as pool company and builder to co-exist and complete project. One of the biggest challenges in this project was the existing tennis court that was set at high level in between the house and where the pool was going to be. Originally the client wanted to dig out the area in between and have the pool lowered at house level. However Erin convinced them to put the pool on the higher level creating a dramatic wet edge, which would then become a feature when walking through the front door and looking out to the backyard. In order to create this effect the block had to be split leveled taking extreme care to create a strong retaining wall to support the tennis court.
A major hurdle at the time was the changing pool regulations which would comprise the design if the time frame wasn’t reached.A permit had to be obtained before the regulation changed as the new pool fence regulations would not allow the house to be used as a boundary, meaning a pool fence would have to be installed between the house and pool interfering with the visual appeal of wet edge. Ultimately the permit was approved and the project completed within the timeframe.
The wet edge pool enabled the block to be split leveled meaning the pool house could be placed on the middle level thus incorporating tennis court, entertaining are, pool and spa all within close proximity. The pool house bi-fold doors enable the indoor outdoor element with the flooring being a seamless uninterrupted blue stone paving. The large alfresco area was created with a custom outdoor kitchen, wood fire pizza oven and television. This entertainers dream then spills out to the pool which features a stunning wet edge stone cladding.
Low maintenance planting included pear trees which lined the tennis court boundary and layers of viburnum hedge and miniature ficus were used to soften hard structures of the wall backing the pool. Two ten thousand litre water tanks were installed to use run off water from the court, which is then recycled for the property’s irrigation system. A fully automated sprinkler system was installed to meet the client’s brief of being low maintenance & the wall backing the sun lounges was built to conceal pumps and filters as well as an area to store pool toys.
